Rights Assignment

1.) What is your right?
2.) Describe what it means to exercise your right.
3.) What limitations exist on your right?
4.) Why do those limitations exist?
5.) If you had to give up this right, what would you want in return?
6.) Why does your right exist?

1.) The right I have is the right to freedom of speech. In the United States this right is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, state constitutions, and state and federal laws. This right means having the freedom to voice your opinions without having any limitation or censorship on what you say.
2.) The right to freedom of speech can be excercised by speaking about what you believe without having fear. You can excercise it by believing in what you say and knowing that you have the right to share your beliefs with others. You defend yourself when people try to censor what you're saying with the fact that you have the right to freedom of speech.
3.) There are limits on freedom of speech when it interferes with other rights or values. It may be censorsed if what is being said is offensive or harmful. There are limitations when having to do with hate speech if what is being said can lead another person to commit an illegal act. There are limits when what is being said is intentionally trying to provoke violence. If "fighting words" are being used in a serious way in which normal people know would lead to violence, you are able to limit free speech. Freedom of speech is considered to be one of the rights in the US that is actually allowed completely. In reality this right isn't always liable, because in many places like school, work places, and multiple others you will face a consequence if they don't believe in what you are saying.
4.) These limitations exist, because people believe without them there would be other crimes commited or that without them we would be conflicting with other rights. The government and others think that with these limitations we are preventing a lot of illegal actions and violence. I would have to agree with this, because from personal experiences I know that "fighting words" can lead to large conflicts.
5.) In reality I don't think I could ever give up this right. I can't always voice my opinion, but when I am able to I always take the opportunity, because I think what I have to say is very important. Although if I had to give up this right I guess in return I would want to have all the other rights applied to me at all times without any limitations. I would want more rights, like the ones having to do with age, because I am young and would like many of the rights that I don't have.
6.) This right exists to protects people's right to speak freely. The history of free speech tells about colonists during the 17th century. There were many punishments for those colonists who tried to speak out against government or anything that government thought to be "blasphemous". People were prosecuted and even given the death penalty in some religious cases. Eventually in 1753 a man named John Peter Zenger was prosecuted for expressing his thoughts in writing. He was represented by a man named Andrew Hamilton who led them to a victory, and this was the turning point that led the right to freedom of speech.

4.) They believe this fact is true about the sun being trapped beneath the layer of pollution.
5.) I believe the source.
6.) Because they state that we need the natural greenhouse effect or the Earth would be at least 30°C cooler and life as we know it would not exist. But it says that due to human activities lately, the natural greenhouse effect is being enhanced. The concentrations are increasing so the infra-red radiation given by the Earth's surface is being trapped.

Overall, I believe this fact is true. Every site I have checked believes this fact is true, and the sources I have found are credible, and this leads me to believe that it is a true statement. I have heard a lot about the topic, and I'm pretty sure that it's true that the greenhouse gas is what is causing the pollution which could eventually completely trap the sun under a layer of pollution.

Middle East Conflict Questions

1.)How did your country get involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East?
2.)What is the history of your country's involvement in that conflict, from when it entered until now? (This will likely be a long answer...)
3.)Who are your enemies in the Middle East? Why?
4.)Who are your friends in the Middle East? Why?
5.)What does your country want out of the Arab-Israeli conflict?
6.)What is it prepared to give up to get what it wants?
7.)What will it not give up to get what it wants?

1.) Palestine has been involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East since the nineteenth century, due to religion issues and fighting over land. After the war of 1948-1949, they split the land that was originally Palestine into three different parts. Palestinians do not believe they should have to give up their land to Israelis to make up to Jewish people for Europe's crimes against them.
2.) Palestinians have been involved in a war with Israel since the nineteenth until the present day. The problems between them remain the same today. Israel had taken over Palestine's land, and later Israel made an offer to Palestine to give them back a large portion of their land. Palestine objected to this offer, because some Palestinians were demanding land in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel declined this demand, because they believed it would become a base for terrorist groups. Israel continues to this day to arrest Palestinians who they accuse of being terrorists. They have total control over them, and have taken away the Palestinians freedom. Portions of the Palestinian land was given to the Jewish people, or taken over by them when they won wars against Arab states, they are also holy for Muslims. Certain parts of Jerusalem that are controlled by Israel are very important to Muslims. For religious reasons, Palestinian Muslims believe that theyneed to gain control of East Jerusalem as part of any lasting peace settlement.
3.) Palestine's enemies in the Middle East conflict are Israel. Israel has taken their land from them, and rules over all of Palestine. They kick them out of their homes, and accuse people of being terrorists. Israelis make Palestinians go through checkpoints just to get to a different city, right in their own land.
4.) Friends of Palestine in the Middle East are Palestine are Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. They can be called at anytime to help Palestine fight against Israel if necessary.
5.) Palestine wants their land back. They want to stop Israel from occupationg their territory, because it's their land and they shouldn't have to go through checkpoints everywhere they go. Also Palestine wants oil and other resources back from their own land. Also they want Israel to stop placing settlements on their land. Even if Palestine eventually becomes a separate state, Israelis will not agree to stop settling on their land.
6.) Palestine is prepared to give up their own people, and sacrifice them to fight back against Israel. Also they are prepared to give up their time and keep the war going, because they will not agree to let Israel continue controlling them and their land.
7.) Palestine will not give up their land to get what they want. Also they will not give up their freedom, Israel may be ruling over them, but they aren't just giving up and they are prepared to fight back until they gain control over their own people, land, religion, and become a separate state.

Reflection Post Questions

What did you learn?
What was your research question?
What was the answer to your research question?
Did your final product answer that question?
How?
What did you do well on the project?
What could you have improved on the project?
What would you change about what you did on the project?
What would you change about the assignment itself?
What grade do you think you deserve on the project? Why?

1.) I have learned many things in the process of making my project. I learned a lot about Obama's life that I didn't already know. For example I didn't know that he was a professor at the University of Chicago Law or that he worked to fight for civil rights before he was senator of Illinois. Although some things I already knew, like that he grew up with a single mother and that his grandparents helped raise him.
2.) My research question was "What important life experiences shaped Barack Obama into the person he is today?"
3.) The answer to that question is that he faced many struggles like growing up without a father and with a single mother. Also he moved around a lot during his childhood. Obama attended Harvard Law School and became the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He has done work in civil rights cases and for other causes. He ran for senator of Illinois and won in 2005. All of this has brought him to where he is at today.
4.) Yes.

Status Report Assignment

What have I accomplished on my project so far?
What do I still have left to do?
What has been harder than I thought it would be?
What has been easier than I thought it would be?
How would I do my project differently if I could start over again?
What do I need to get accomplished before Spring Break?

So far I have accomplished getting my scrap book and beginning to fill it with pictures and information. What I have left to do is finish up my project completely with just a few more pages. What has been harder than I thought is thinking of ways to put my scrap book together. Also it has been kind of had to find a lot of pictures to go along with my information. What has been easier than I thought is giving an answer to my question. How I would do it differently would have been to get my supplies earlier than I did. Before Spring Break I need all my posts, a scrap book, and supplies.
